Introduction
From the beginning of the 17th century, tea became one of the commodities traded between China and the West. After the 1720s, tea gradually became the most important commodity in China-West trading. The green leaves changed people’s lives.

The exhibition focuses on the journey of tea from China to the Western world through maritime trade during the 17th-19th centuries. Divided into three chapters (i.e., “Long Journey of Chinese Tea”, “Process of Export Tea Trade”, and “Cultural Exchange on the Tea Road”), it systematically shows how tea makes it to the West from the Chinese tea producing areas from the three perspectives of production, sales, and cultural exchange.
